Cricket fans in Antigua and Barbuda are invited to join the Falcons family as the newest franchise prepares to make their mark in the Republic Bank Caribbean Premier League (CPL). The Antigua and Barbuda Falcons will play the opening fixture on August 29 – with today marking a month to go to that contest. They will face neighbors St Kitts Patriots at the home base at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium, with first ball at 7pm.
“The countdown is well and truly on to our opening match on August 29. We are eager and we are ready. This is now a month to go, so we are putting all the preparations in place to host that first match when we expect to see the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium filled with fans supporting the home team. This promises to be a memorable night of cricket and entertainment, with some brand-new initiates and activities planned for the fans to enjoy and party” said Krishna Persaud, owner of the franchise.
“We are inviting everyone to join the Falcons family and take the flight with their favorite team on the journey. This will be the perfect place for friends, family, fan and fun as we introduce the Falcons way of watching the game and enjoying the entertainment of the ‘Biggest Party in Sport’ said Jeff Miller, CEO and General Manager.
Miller added that the momentum will continue all the way to the match on home soil which will run from Thursday, August 29 to Thursday, September 5.
“In the coming weeks the streets of Antigua will come alive as we continue our fun-filled ‘made-for-fans’ events and street parades which will include giveaways of tickets, jerseys, merchandise. Fan will also get the chance to meet our amazing players and hardworking coaches, and this will be part of the events when the team plays in Antigua … we will have festivities through the home-based matches,” Persaud said.
The Antigua & Barbuda Falcons are the newest franchise in the Republic Bank CPL. They were officially unveiled during a gala opening ceremony hosted by Krishna Persaud earlier this year. Their home base will be the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua.
The 2024 Republic Bank CPL will take place from August 29 to October 6 with matches in Antigua for the first time in 10 years. The final will once again take place in Guyana at The National Stadium in Providence. The tournament will have matches in Barbados, Guyana, St Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, and Trinidad and Tobago. Once again, the window for the CPL will not clash with West Indies fixtures, so the best Caribbean talent will be on show at the biggest party in sport.
